Why Women WILL be Treated as Equals!!!

History, if nothing else, provides a detailed, repetitive, and clear set of facts that men are not in charge of this place (think Universe, Earth, Society et al).  Try as we might, old men have failed repeatedly at stacking the deck against females to protect our power in the family, corporation, and government … it goes back to the beginning of time.

"Adam tried to convince the world it was Eve's fault he ate that apple!"

Really?  Why didn't the earth's first man show some modicum of restraint and take ownership for his own actions?

After leaving Garden of Eden, old men fought against women's right to vote (1920s), women's right to love who they want when they want (alienation of affection is still on the books in NC and 4 flea-sized states), right to fly in combat (1991), and compete in college sports until Title IX (1972).  Click here for more of this SMH OLD DUDES rant.

The old man in the picture below was scared to let this woman compete in the Boston Marathon in 1966 (that ain't that long ago folks!)

I digressed before I got started.  Some might call it setting the stage for that fact that last night we witnessed a pretty remarkable reminder that women, women's sports, and women's empowerment is a true force of nature that will not be stopped by a bunch of arcane, historically biased, male-oriented laws, social habits, faith-based overreach, and the random opinions of fringe creepy dude Podcasters.  #sciencematters

Let’s go to work.

LOVB, LOVB Htx, SectionZ, and PCGCares got together to show a bus load of Houston area, Texas students why “anything is possible if you set your mind to it.”

Not in a conceptual or Instagram reel way, but in a very real “live” experience that put young women face-to-face with successful, empowered, and highly motivated women in all aspects of professional sports.

"Focus on what you can control:  Thoughts, Attitude, Effort, and Behaviors."

If you have not heard of #LOVB, read up on it HERE. The ecosystem “model” is taken from the European approach to “longitudinal” progression from crib to career.  Except athletes in Europe don’t have the higher-ed career step, so we might have an advantage in USA with the continued support of NCAA.  Title IX reminds us what can happen when all branches of government get behind a great idea to support ALL students. #LOVBHtx

If you have not heard of #TheSectionZ, read up on it HERE.  Stef’s motivation for her non-profit organization came after a serious accident in 2020 caused her to reflect on her life and legacy. She realized that who she is today and most of her successes were due to her participation in sports. Her mission:  get young student athletes to pro events to engage with professionals and learn about a wide variety of career pathways in sports industries.

"We show young women what’s possible,” she said. “We give them the opportunity to meet and hear from women who work in sports and through this experience they see that the fundamentals of athletics really do set them up for success.”

Section Z’s tagline is “It’s more than a ticket,” a reference to how sports offer lifelong benefits.

You could see the lightbulbs turning on for the students AND teachers during the Section Z panel discussion.  If you have the privilege to meet Stef Zeh ... she's one powerful human and you'll walk away a better person.

If you have not heard about #PCGCares, read up on it HEREPublic Consulting Group has a firm-wide, global, and employee-driven commitment to local community service.  I was thrilled to see local folks engage and participate in the Section Z panel discussion with these young women.  #PCGCares ... a lot.

What we are witnessing in professional women's sport is as remarkable as Ameilia Earhart’s busting into the USA aviation industry.

"During World War II, physicians (think old men) believed that Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) shouldn’t fly during the “dysfunction of their menstrual cycle.” As Molly Merryman wrote in her history of the WASP, Clipped Wings, the Army Air Forces, after much study, concluded that menstruation had no effect on female pilots."

LOVB and Amelia Earhart did NOT listen to “you can’t.”  They simply set their minds to the goal of being their very best, did the hard work, and changed the world for the better.

What we are witnessing in women's professional volleyball is history in the making ... one block at a time (pun intended).
