Happy Lovers Day!
OK ... if you have a rigid view of holidays or strong opinions about the mysteries of love, then you probably want to X out right now.
This post is going to braid 3 strands of love into a beautiful summation: Work Harder, Play Harder, Love Harder ... life is short. Let's go to work.
UNSTOPPABLE
My babysitter back in Asheville, NC was a high school girl who played basketball. My grandad told me she "allegedly" got caught skinny dipping in Enka Lake, but that was before Nanny/Pet/Security wireless cameras. #InnoncentUntilNot #askDT
She lived down the hill in a sharp curve on Sand Hill Road. Her daddy was a preacher, and I suspect her husband's favorite song is a gender-bending version of "Son of a Preacher Man."
This is relevant to this post because George Hirthler wrote the book UNSTOPPABLE about Dee & Rick Ray. It's an amazing read that consists of:
- 1 part ACC basketball history lesson (Jimmy V, Tar Heels, Cameron Crazies ... all of it)
- 1 part Fuqua Business School Case Study (strategic planning to full implementation)
- 1 part Romance Novel (thus why it's included in our Valentine's blog post)
If you love ACC Basketball, if you love all-things covered in an MBA degree, if you love someone who completely understands you and you celebrate that person, then you are gonna LOVE THIS BOOK.
Over the decades, I've watched a bunch of folks go from ambitious neophytes to industry leaders who dominate their industry. This book offers a play-by-play on how Raycom became the leaders in a newly forming broadcasting industry with few rules and no proven approaches. The Rays figured it out and got it done. You'll enjoy their story of work, play, and family/friends! #GoMakeaCircle
WESLEY HOUSE FAMILY SERVICES
Dee & Rick Ray's book reminded us of just how steep the success mountain can be to climb. While pondering their success, we received an invitation to support a remarkable organization located in Key West.
Here's how the dots connect Raycom and Wesley House: FAMILY. The Rays have configured a family structure that would require the NASA data center to map it out. Wait for it. Lots of good people loving lots of good people from all over the globe.
Wesley House has programs that encompass all aspects of family support and prevention services. These folks are didicated to protecting and nuturing children and strengthening families. You'll enjoy their story of work, play, and family/friends! #HappyCircle
HAPPY LOVERS DAY
Across the nation, there is a considerable discussion about holidays. I can get really frothy about Columbus Day because it detracts from a more worthy celebration. Thanksgiving is totally at risk given Paul Harvey's "the rest of the story." But it seems everyone is down for 2/14 and Cupid's antics.
From my perspective, the world can use a bit more love. And frankly ... some of the building blocks in the DNA of love like gratitude, respect, freedom, humility, forgiveness, compassion, empathy, and grace. #Hugs #KeepGrindingXO
Video cred: @KelliDarlin (that's Kelli with an "i") with whom every day is #HappyLoversDay !
Here's today's vid clip:
